Grainne Kenny Designs Gorey

Gráinne Kenny is a Textile Designer from Gorey in Co. Wexford.
She has a Masters Degree in Textile Design from University College Falmouth, Cornwall, graduating in 2007.

Gráinne has always had a love for colour, texture and detail when it came to designing her work.
Inspired by the beauty and the mystery of the Seashore, she has developed a signature style of working with textiles to create beautiful and functional pieces for Interiors.
She specializes in the creation of be-spoke Textile Wall Art, Lampshades and Jewellery Inspired by Shorelines along the south east coast of Ireland.
A hand weaver by trade, she also specializes in mixed media textiles.

She uses a variety of materials from fabrics to yarns, from silk, linen wool and cotton, handmade papers, bamboo yarns, gold and silver leaf, dyes, inks, pigments, beads and seashells to create her textile pictures known as ‘Sea Studies’ Her lampshade designs are inspired by the Sea Studies and the fabric is digitally printed by an Irish based Company. The lampshade is then made by Gráinne. Other designs include hand woven trim lampshades that have appeared in various press related articles from The Irish Times Magazine, House and Home Magazine and Irish Tatler to name a few.
Her Jewellery, introduced in 2016 and the collection which was launched at Showcase Ireland 2018, is made using a combination of coloured resins with textiles, beads and shells set in silver plated settings and included in the collection are pendants, earrings and bracelets.
Everything tells a story, everything is inspired by the Sea.
The colour Blue in all shades from Sky Blue,Turquoise,Navy Blue,Teal and Aquamarine among other colour’s from pale greens, soft grey’s, blush pinks,purples, creams and ochre’s with hints of silver or gold metallic hues are used throughout her work.
All Sea-studies are framed behind glass in a white, natural grain wooden frame that is made and sourced in Ireland.
Her gift packaging takes inspiration from her logo and the greys, cream and turquoise blue tones are carried out through out her collections.
Everything is made by Gráinne in her own studio located in Gorey.
The theme of the seashore has been a on going constant theme since her college years.
Gráinne has a love for Textiles and has been developing, learning and perfecting her craft since setting up in business in 2012 and prior to that had been studying textiles for many years beforehand.

Her work has appeared in various press publications, online blogs and she was interviewed and appeared on Irish TV on sky for the program Wexford County Matters.
Her work is popular for all occasions in particular used for Wedding gifts, new homes, her work has also been selected for corporate gifts by Wexford County Council, Gorey Chamber of Commerce and Gorey Little Theatre Hall for the South Leinster All Ireland Drama Festival 2018 to name a few and commissioned by Interior Designers.
In 2017, Gráinne attended Showcase Ireland in the RDS for the first time and was supported by Wexford Local Enterprise Office, she also attended in January 2018 and will once more be supported in 2019.

Her work is available through many selected craft & design led stockists,galleries and boutiques in Ireland and in the UK.

Grainne is a registered member of The Design & Crafts Council of Ireland and a Member of The Wexford Craft Trail.
